England’s World Cup Campaign – A Reflection – The future is bright

Reflection After England’s defeat last night I think we are all left with a weird feeling. The feeling of natural disappointment, perhaps a missed opportunity to get to a final? But also a feeling of magnificent pride. Before this tournament people weren’t sure if England would get out the group, a particularly easy group at that. I remember before it started purposefully arguing why England could drop points against Panama. Instead we had a team that played a fine style of measured football. Now it is only natural for the team and fans to feel disappointment. However, England must not employ the Colombian route of ‘blame everyone else’, the classic…

World Cup Preview – England vs Croatia – Semi Final

Overview   (Caveat – this piece will be short and sweet, as I’ve managed to pull a muscle in my back whilst walking to work and the whole Quasimodo thing just isn’t working for me)   Well Well Well!! England comfortably beat Sweden. There was a nervous feeling in the air as Sweden were our bogey team. However, you couldn’t help but feel they had a similar type of team to England with less quality. In England’s squad there are one or two young players emerging as world class, not to mention that Harry Kane has already established himself there, but still expectation was that it would be a more…

World Cup Preview – England vs Sweden – Quarter Final

Overview And then there were eight. It’s still difficult to comprehend the fact that England are going to avoid Brazil, France, Belgium and Uruguay if they eventually get to the Semi’s/Final. As far as I’m concerned, England have already achieved above expectations this tournament in reaching the Quarters. I don’t care how they did it but beating Colombia in an away game, hostile atmosphere, it was quite an accomplishment. We all know there would be more England fans if Russia had not made it clear at the Euros that beer bellied bald Brits were public enemy number one. It is no surprise that the Colombian fans numbered 8-1. People should…

World Cup Preview – England vs Colombia – Last 16

Overview It looks like this world cup has become the underdogs tournament, a chance for a star next to their badge. With Germany, Spain, Portugal and Argentina knocked out and other, maybe not so large, teams making a big impression on the competition, such as hosts Russia. It seems that the 2018 tournament could fall into the hands of a complete outsider albeit France, Belgium, Uruguay and Brazil still looking very strong but destined to fight each other and not the underdogs. Underdogs England, Colombia, Switzerland, Sweden, Russia and Croatia won’t meet one of those feared sides until the final.  It’s crazy to think one of these stated teams will…
