World Cup Wunderkinds P1     Gabriel Jesus   Name: Gabriel Fernando de Jesus Club: Manchester City (England) Position: Forward Nationality: Brazilian Date of birth: 3 April 1997   The Past Let’s start with a bang, 21 year-old Jesus made his name as an exciting youngster at Brazilian club Palmeiras. Clearly an exciting prospect at youth level, 37 goals in 22 games (2014), supporters even started a petition to get the youngster more playing time. He had to wait until 2015 to make his debut subsequently receiving the Campeonato Brasileiro ‘Best Newcomer’ and winning the Copa do Brasil against legendary club Santos. Internationally, he started for Brazil U20 in the…

Toulon Tournament Recap – England vs Mexico – Final 2018

England vs Mexico  – The Final   Preview England vs Mexico had nail biter written all over it. Two traditionally strong youth powerhouses who would come to blows. England presented a strong experienced squad while what Mexico lacked in depth of squad they made up for with a few outstanding talents that I have no doubt will remain on a global stage for the duration of their careers.   The Match The game started with a bang as, the definitive Mexico striker, Roberto Alvarado scored in the second minute assisted by Eduardo Aguirre. Aguirre had a sensational tournament topping it off with the golden boot and equalling Alan Shearers record…

    Toulon Tournament Recap – England vs Scotland – Semi-Final – 2018

England vs Scotland   Semi-Final England qualified for the Semi-Final as the best second place team in the group stages. This led to an exciting draw against yea-old enemy Scotland. Scotland had stunned hosts France in their group to qualify as top of their group and this led to an exciting showdown. Normally when England and Scotland meet it is in an organised friendly so to meet in a competitive context is always exciting. The other Semi-Final was a good match up of Mexico vs. Turkey. You need nerves of steel at these stages of the tournament but to get this far is great experience for young players to show…

Name: Diego Lainez Leyva Club: America (Mexico) Position: Midfielder Nationality: Mexican Date of birth: 9 June 2000 The Present Diego Lainez is a 17 year old Mexican player who currently plays for Liga MX Club America. One of the youngest ever players to make a debut for the first team at 16 he graduated through their youth set-up as an attacking midfielder (number 10) or wide-man. Lainez has extremely ‘quick feet’, great crossing ability and unbelievable dribbling, already being dubbed the Mexican Messi. This player certainly has been blessed with the talent to take the world by storm. He knows when to take a man on but also when to cross…

    Wunderkind Watch – Billy Gilmour

Wunderkind Watch – Billy Gilmour Name: Billy Clifford Gilmour Club: Chelsea Position: Midfielder Nationality: Scottish Date of birth: 11 June 2001 The Present Billy Clifford Gilmour is a 16 year old Scottish player who currently plays for Chelsea FC. Signed from Rangers academy at 15 years old he is a center midfielder with great technical ability and a solid range of passing, even more important to note though is his ability to dictate tempo from the center of the park. Currently representing Scotland at U21 level is no mean feat, not only that, showing he easily holds his own on the pitch. Interestingly his diminutive stature does not hold him back,…

Toulon Tournament Recap – England vs Qatar – Group Stage – 2018

England vs Qatar   Qualification After England’s 0-0 draw with Mexico the two teams were neck and neck at the top of Group A. Both teams needed to win their last games against Qatar and China respectively as strong favourites; but being in 7 points each brought in the ‘win by how much’ factor. Mexico, playing first, beat China 3-1. This left England needing a 5-goal aggregate score line to top their group and guarantee qualification to the semi-finals. As I have previously mentioned there are only four groups at the Toulon tournament with the group winners and the best second placed team going through. If England did not achieve…

Toulon Tournament Recap – England vs Mexico – Group Stage – 2018

England vs Mexico Earlier, China and Qatar, the other two teams in this group, drew 1-1. This confirmed what was essentially already known … whoever wins out of England vs Mexico will win the group. The result came to a well fought 0-0 draw. I know what you are thinking but nonetheless the game was entertaining and left us with much to talk about. Aidy Boothroyd made 5 changes to the England side that started against China. With so much depth to the squad and the level of football it makes sense to rotate the team, maybe not by that much though. Nmencha of Manchester City and Nketiah (Arsenal) combined…
